CS Council Continues FY12 Budget Tweaking

Most of Thursday night’s College Station City Council meeting addressed further tweaks in next years budget. Mayor Nancy Berry received unanimous support reducing the city’s contribution to the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau by $32,000 dollars.

This follows the city’s internal auditor finding issues with past CVB spending practices. Council members Thursday night repeated confidence in the CVB’s future with new faces on the agency’s board of directors. In a separate motion, the mayor also had no opposition to the city’s $50,000 dollar contribution to the Bush Library made directly to the library instead of going first to the CVB, which had been past practice.

A College Station City Council majority supported a $50,000 dollar increase in next year’s budget to the local economic development agency. The Research Valley Partnership was asking for its first increase since 2004. Councilman Karl Mooney, who was less than pleased hearing the same presentation three times, supported the increase.

Mooney also made a motion that passed, directing staff to study the legality of giving the RVP money from the hotel occupancy tax.

Next year’s Bryan city budget also calls for the $50,000 dollar increase, while the Brazos County Commission is holding next year’s contribution at this year’s figure of $300,000 dollars.
