CS Council Addresses Hotel Occupancy Tax

The city of College Station is not spending all the money that’s collected from the hotel occupancy tax (HOT).

The city council Monday night decided at its future strategic retreat to consider how it should be spent.

The current surplus is $1,264,000. City staff forecasts that to grow to $6,956,000 in five years. That doesn’t count what will be received when the former Chimney Hill shopping center is sold.

James Benham received support to ideas that included adding employees to market city attractions and events.

Suggestions from Steve Aldrich included a capital improvements plan.

Below is background information presented to the city council.
