Initial excitement over a special area of College Station’s new cemetery has waned.
Councilman Jess Fields, whose parents operated cemeteries, expressed his concern about expenses falling way short of revenue at the Aggie Field of Honor, part of Memorial Cemetery.

During the discussion at the last city council meeting, Mayor Nancy Berry responded to Fields’ concern by recalling thousands of Aggies signing a petition pledging to buy space when the concept was being considered, and those pledges now way short of expectations.

While the Field and the rest of Memorial Cemetery has plenty of room, College Station cemetery is almost full. Remaining are 25 standard, 28 infant, and 80 cremation spaces.
The discussion was before a unanimous council vote raising cemetery fees an average of ten percent.
