Courtney Walker Named SEC Co-Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Texas A&M women’s basketball’s senior guard Courtney Walker was named SEC Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday, after averaging 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds against then-No. 14 Duke and TCU this week. This is the fourth SEC Player of the Week honor of Walker’s career, and her first since Feb. 23, 2015.

Walker’s four career SEC Player of the Week Honors surpasses former All-American Kelsey Bone for the A&M career record, who had three SEC Weekly Honors. Danielle Adams is A&M’s career leader with six conference player of the week selections, but all of those came in the Big 12.

Walker, who was espnW’s National Player of the Week this week, had her second career double double at then-No. 14 Duke, helping the then-No. 12 Aggies to a 72-66 overtime win with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Walker scored nine of the 12 A&M points in the third quarter, which helped the Aggies build an 11-point lead, then later found Khaalia Hillsman with 34.6 seconds left for a wide-open layup that sent the game to overtime. Walker then scored six of eight points, including five straight in overtime, taking a 1-point A&M deficit to a nearly-insurmountable 4-point lead.

The Edmond, Okla. native followed up that performance with 23 points and eight rebounds against TCU, nailing the game-icing layup with just over five seconds to play in the Aggies’ 82-78 victory. Walker defended two-time all-conference selection Zahna Medley during that game, holding her to just six points.

Walker had back-to-back 20+ point games, which marks the first time any A&M player has accomplished the feat since Nov. 14-15, 2014, when Walker did it against DePaul and New Mexico.

Walker, a two-time All-American selection, is averaging 18.0 points and 5.8 rebounds this season.

The No. 10 Aggies have started 4-0 for the seventh time in the past eight seasons. A&M takes on No. 16 Cal and No. 11 Ohio State this week, on November 27-28 at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev.
