HOUSTON (AP) _ A suspected drunken driver whom police accuse of striking and killing a pedestrian with his car on a Houston freeway is set to be in court.
Police say James Onak drove for several miles after the victim had crashed through the windshield and landed next to him in the passenger’s seat. He’s scheduled to make his first appearance in a Houston courtroom on Friday.
Onak, 49, is charged with felony failure to stop and render aid in a fatality and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
Police say Fadel Steadman, 32, died in the accident while crossing Interstate 45 in southeast Houston early Tuesday after his vehicle broke down.
