Correction And Update To The Field Of Republican Candidates For The Congressional District 17 Seat

WTAW News has a correction and an update involving the field of Republican candidates seeking the congressional seat being vacated by the retirement of Bill Flores.

Thanks to Brazos County Republican Party chairman David Hilburn for reporting John Cyrier is seeking re-election as Texas House district 17 representative, not congressional district 17.

Hilburn also reported there is a ninth GOP hopeful, Waco realtor Kristen Alamo Rowin.

The filing deadline for the March third primary is December ninth.

Edited version of original story:

Next year’s retirement of congressman Bill Flores of Bryan has generated an eighth Republican candidate for the primary next March.

Renee Swann runs the business side of an eye surgery practice that she and her husband, an ophthalmologist, founded in Waco 38 years ago.

Swann is one of three G-O-P candidates from Waco, joining Scott Bland and Pete Sessions.

There are three from Bryan/College Station, Trent Sutton, Todd Kent, and Elianor Vessali.

And there are two from the Austin area, Ahmad Adnan and George Hindman.

Two Democrats have also announced running for the vacancy, David Jaramillo of Waco and Rick Kennedy of Pflugerville.

The filing deadline for the primary is December ninth.
