Controversial CHL Instructor Won’t Lose License

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A Texas gun instructor who said he wouldn’t teach Muslims how to handle a firearm won’t lose his state license over the controversial radio spot.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Monday that Crockett Keller affirmed to the agency that he would not close his concealed handgun class to anyone “based on national origin, race or religion.”

The agency said its investigation was closed and would have no further comment.

Keller, 65, made headlines this month when a YouTube clip of his rural radio spot went viral. Keller also discouraged “socialist liberals” and supporters of President Barack Obama from signing up for his class in Mason County.

Muslim groups condemned the ad, and some locals who know Keller described him as a character who likes attention.
