College Station police and fire respond to a natural gas leak late Tuesday afternoon (May 5).
CSPD’s Facebook page says a contractor hit a gas line on Southwest Parkway near Glade Street between Bee Creek and Anderson Street.
That resulted in residents of the Dwell apartments being asked to shelter in place.
Eastbound motorists had to detour using Glade Street and westbound motorists were diverted to Anderson.
Six Bryan police officers respond to the report at an apartment complex west of Blinn College of what turned out to be a mother pointing a gun at her daughter. BPD arrest reports say the mother, 46 year old Andrea Miles, pointed the gun she carries as an armed security guard at her daughter, 30 year old Bryanna Miles, who damaged her mother’s car. That followed an argument over the daughter vaping inside her mother’s apartment. The mother was taken to jail on a felony charge of family violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the daughter went to jail on a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief. As of May 14, both women remain in jail. The mother’s bond was set at $25,000 dollars and the daughter’s bond was set at $3,000 dollars. A Bryan police officer who recognized a driver who does not have a license led to a chase that ended when the suspect’s car struck and knocked down a railroad crossing arm. After the driver and a passenger were checked out on the scene at the crossing on West 28th Street, both went to jail. The 17 year old driver, Jaykub Melendez of Bryan, was charged with evading, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and evidence tampering for throwing out the marijuana during the chase. Melendez remains jailed as of May 14 in lieu of bonds totaling $32,000 dollars. The 16 year old passenger was arrested for possessing marijuana and evidence tampering as well as a warrant in a prior case for obstruction or retaliation. A Bryan man returns to the Brazos County jail for public intoxication the same day he is released after serving time for his sixth conviction of the same offense in the last three and a half years. Online records also show it’s the 34th time in seven years that 29 year old Eddie Davis II went to jail since June of 2019. A Bryan police arrest report says Davis returned to jail following a disturbance in the emergency room at St. Joseph’s hospital. As of May 14, Davis remains jailed in lieu of a $4,000 dollar bond.
In February of 2021, an attempted armed robbery at a College Station apartment resulted in 18 gunshots being fired by three people. The occupant was killed along with one of the suspects. The second suspect, who drove away without being struck by the gunfire, was convicted of murder Wednesday (May 13) by a Brazos County district court jury. Then 30 year old Samuel Rodriguez of Houston was sentenced to 50 years in prison and fined $2,000 dollars. The trial, which according to court records began on May 4, followed six postponements dating back to March of 2023.
Since January of 2025, Brazos County commissioners have regularly talked about and on occasion made changes to the county’s credit card policy. At the commission’s May 5th business meeting, approval was given to several changes requested by the purchasing office. The amended policy says “To facilitate a more efficient credit card approval process, only credit cards requested by a department in excess of $10,000 will be required to obtain Court approval. Those requested at $10,000 or below could be approved by Purchasing. A summary of credit cards will be provided to the Court periodically. To accommodate the payment of utilities or other fees without incurring late fees and to avoid the payment of a deposit, Purchasing, Auditor and Treasurer requests permission to obtain a credit card for these payments. A process of expanding credit card limits during an emergency or when one is imminent is added.” Before the four to nothing vote, a public speaker asked that the policy required automatic termination of employees who misuse county credit cards. Commissioners made no change to the current policy which says employees may face termination. During the same meeting, purchasing agent Charles Wendt gave his first report on the county’s new credit card providing a rebate back to the county. In August of 2025, Brazos County commissioners decided to change credit card providers, in part to take advantage of rebates. Wendt thanked county employees for their quick payment of credit card charges totaling $62,286.14 during the last six months that resulted in the county receiving a rebate of $1,124.80.
