Consol and Rudder girls win 1st playoff games

Both the Consol Tigers and the Rudder Ranger girls advanced past the first round of the state basketball playoffs last night with wins at Fairfield. The Lady Tigers got a 44-43 win over Mesquite Horn. Tierra Tucker hi one of two free throws with five second left to give the Tigers the one-point win. Horn never got another shot off after Leah Gonzalez came up with a steal. Tierra and Taylor Tucker each scored 15 for the Tigers, who go to 15-9 and next play in the Area Round.

Later at Fairfield, the Rudder Rangers girls had an easier time with Red Oak as the Rangers cruised 79-53. LaMaria Cole scored 20 for the Rangers who go to 28-5 for the year.

In boys district play last night, Bryan lost its final regular-season game 85-78 to Shoemaker in Killeen.

Consol also lost their finale to Ellison 55-42 and Rudder fell to Bastrop 91-84. But all three are advancing to the playoffs next week.
