Condemned Inmate Loses Appeal

HOUSTON (AP) _ A federal appeals court has rejected a lawsuit that accused the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a Texas sheriff of violating the civil rights of a condemned inmate by harassing him and interfering with efforts to gather information for a clemency petition.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, without comment, has denied the request from lawyers for convicted killer Willie Pondexter that his March 3 execution be stopped.

Pondexter, 34, from Idabel, Okla., is set to die for the slaying of 85-year-old Martha Lennox at her home in Clarksville in northeast Texas more than 15 years ago
