Company Used To Process BTU Customer Credit Card Payments Is A Ransomware Victim

A company used by BTU (Bryan Texas Utilities) to process credit card payments is a ransomware victim.

A BTU news release says the only places to pay bills by credit card is at BTU kiosks at their new office off of the freeway, BTU’s former office across from city hall, and at H-E-B stores. The kiosk locations also accept checks and cash. Checks with the bill stub can be mailed to BTU at Box 8000 in Bryan, zip 77805.

The BTU news release says they will not apply late fees or disconnect utility services while credit card payment processing remains unavailable.

The ransomware incident involves BTU’s third-party payment processing vendor, BridgePay. According to BTU, as of Monday afternoon (February 9) BridgePay has indicated there has been no release of customer information.

The news release also says there is no estimated timeline for bringing back credit card payments online and by phone.

Customers with questions may visit status.bridgepaynetwork.com for updates from the vendor or contact BTU Customer Service for assistance.

The agenda for Monday’s (February 9) meeting of the BTU board did not include the ransomware incident. A BTU spokeswoman told WTAW News that “this incident began after the 5-day posting requirement for agendas past which is why it could not be discussed or included in the agenda.”
