Fundraising looked bleak two weeks before Christmas as Bryan-College Station’s Salvation Army had only met about fifty percent of its fundraising goals, but Lieutenant Jeremy Walker says things turned around, and then some.
In fact, by the end of this year’s Red Kettle Campaign, Walker says they surpassed their goal of $150,000 with a whopping $166,000.
Walker says he’s overwhelmed by the community’s helpful spirit; the the people of the twin cities not only stepped up when they asked for help, but were willing to volunteer as soon as they knew what was going on.
He says this was his family’s first Christmas in Bryan-College Station, and he can’t express enough how blessed he feels by God and the community.
Walker says they had a slight increase in volunteers, and this Christmas, they were able to get presents for about 2,000 local children through their Angel Tree program.
He says the rest of the money will go towards the Salvation Army’s local social work, such as the food pantry, clothes closet, emergency rent and utilities, fire victim lodging, and youth programs.
