The number two man in charge at College Station Utilities electric finished 38 years on the job this week.
Tony Michalsky started as a groundsman with CSU in 1980, when the city’s population was 37,000.
“Just graduated from high school, was looking for a job, found a job, learned the electric business. Eventually was climbing poles, working in bucket trucks on the power lines,” said Michalsky.
Before becoming assistant director, Michalsky worked as a lineman, foreman, supervisor and superintendent. He’s seen it all when it comes to power outages.
“Far as a the craziest, someone’s iguana getting on the pole,” remembered Michalsky.
His wife and he are returning to his hometown of La Grange where they are remodeling a house.
