College Station School Board Decides To Adjust High School Boundaries

The College Station school board decided Tuesday night to adjust high school attendance zones.

The decision to move boundaries was due to overpopulation at College Station High School.

Board members said they heard from patrons who were opposed to a $40 to $45 million dollar bond election to expand CSHS when the population at Consolidated High School is less than 85 percent of capacity.

The board, on a 6-0 vote, supported superintendent Clark Ealy’s recommended timeline where new boundaries would be implemented in the fall of 2019.

The board agreed with Dr. Ealy to complete the boundary change process this spring, which is faster than past rezonings. That’s in order for parents to know what lies ahead before the summer break.

There was no board opposition to suggestions from Ealy that juniors and seniors would be grandfathered, and this year’s eighth graders, or next year’s incoming freshmen, would have the option of following the rest of their neighborhood to their high school.

The board also directed administrators to provide possible incentives to increase enrollment at Consol.
