Ten recommendations for the College Station school district to take local control of what are now state laws have been approved by the school board.
The action to become a district of innovation followed comments from one public speaker.
School board candidate Jackie Huff questioned the district deciding how much time teachers get to plan and prepare for their classes.
CSISD chief academic officer Penny Tramel says the changes have been cleared with the district’s lawyers.
CSISD also wants local control, among other things, to determine minimum student to teacher ratios, the length of teacher contracts, to decide when the school year starts, changing minimum student attendance regulations, and setting its own requirements to hire educators for certain classes.
