College Station has been named by Forbes Magazine as the ninth best small city nationally and first in Texas for careers and business.
Deputy City Manager Frank Simpson says this will help recruit not only new business and industry but regional sports events.
While Texas A&M’ University’s days in the Big 12 are numbered, College Station is one of three conference cities in the Forbes top ten. Manhattan, Kansas is first and Columbia, Missouri is eighth.
In compiling the list, Forbes considered 12 metrics relating to past and projected job growth, business and living costs, income growth, educational attainment and projected economic growth. It also factored in quality of life issues such as crime rates, cultural and recreational opportunities and net migration patterns. A final consideration was the area’s number of highly ranked colleges based on Forbes’ annual college rankings.
