College Station City Council Takes Next Step Toward Improvements In And Around Thomas Park

Construction could start before the end of this year on improvements at College Station’s Thomas Park that were approved by voters in a November 2022 bond issue. That’s after the College Station city council on Monday (May 18) selected a company to assist with pre construction services. Capital projects director Jennifer Cain said she hopes to return to the council in late summer or early fall with a construction contract. The Thomas Park bond issue includes money for a new restroom building, pavilion, playgrounds, lighted walking paths, resurfacing the existing basketball courts to accommodate both basketball and four-square play, reconfiguring the existing tennis courts to allow three pickleball courts and one tennis court, and improving the drainage inside the park. This contract and the future construction contract also includes replacing asphalt streets with concrete around and near the park on portions of Puryear Drive, James Parkway, and Francis Drive. This will be paid from the city’s streets, parks, water, and wastewater capital improvement accounts. College Station Police Find A Missing Child While Bryan Police Make An Arrest On Charges Of Threatening The Director And Children At An Early Learning Center

Last weekend’s activity for College Station police included finding a missing child. Officers were notified Sunday night (May 17) around nine of a lost child around the pool of an apartment complex near Southwest Parkway and Welsh. A CSPD spokesman tells WTAW News that the four year old boy was found at the apartment. And the youngster took officers to the apartment where he lived. Parents were located, the child appeared healthy and well cared for, and no arrests were made. Activities at a Bryan church’s children’s learning center are disrupted by a woman who was arrested on charges of threatening to kill the director and 15 to 20 children. Bryan police arrest reports say the woman was outside the St. Joseph Catholic Church early learning center banging on a window and making the threats. The director locked the doors, moved the children into the library, then called police. 46 year old Laterya Torrence of Bryan was charged with making a terroristic threat, resisting arrest, giving a fake name, and possessing drug paraphernalia. As of May 20, Torrence remains in the Brazos County jail in lieu of bonds totaling $14,000 dollars.

Retirements Of Franklin’s Police Chief And An Officer

In Franklin, the city’s police chief and one of its officers have retired. That follows the city council placing on paid suspension, chief Terry Thibodeaux and officer John Key. The decisions by Thibodeaux, who had been with the department for 25 years and Key for six years, meant the city council took no action on their employment status at Monday night’s meeting (May 18). The paid suspensions follow an investigation that was started by the state agency that certifies law enforcement officers. The nature of the investigation was not disclosed. WTAW News has asked a city spokesperson if an interim chief has been named and if the vacancies will be filled.
