Discussion Of Rebuilding A Section Of Rock Prairie Road Includes Comments About A Possible Site For A New College Station Public Works Complex

July marks 14 years since a landfill was closed on Rock Prairie Road east of the freeway. College Station mayor John Nichols said during the council’s June 26th meeting that the undeveloped part of the property, where the landfill proper was not built, is being considered as a possible site for a new public works complex. Nichols said the Brazos Valley solid waste management agency gave permission to allow the city to conduct soil tests. The mayor’s comments were made as the council learned that design work is 90 percent complete on rebuilding Rock Prairie Road between Fitch and Town Lake, which is the section that includes the former landfill. The current design calls for a three lane road with shared use paths and a separated bike lane. Capital projects director Jennifer Cain said it was possible to make that section a four lane road by taking out the bike lane. Cain also said that decision could be considered after a recommended traffic study, which would be done if the council proceeds with building the public works complex at that location. July 2025 City Of Bryan Capital Projects Update

July’s regular meeting of the Bryan city council included an update on capital improvement projects by city manager Kean Register.   The list includes: • South College should be opened within the next two weeks from Villa Maria north to 2107 S. College. • Mumford Rd Phase 1, from FM2818 to Carrier Lane, will begin construction on July 14. • The Chick Lane Elevated Storage Tank is entering the painting phase, and the bottom half of the bowl will be lifted to the top of the pedestal by early August. • The gravity line and force main to Stella Ranch is 90% complete. • Work on the lift station at Stella Ranch has started. • The wastewater collection line serving the Hwy 47 corridor is 30% complete. • The 18-inch waterline from Hwy 47 to Hwy 21 is 80% complete.
