A College Station couple admit in Brazos County district court to evidence tampering following a drug overdose death.

Online court records show 31 year old Joseph Champlin II was sentenced to seven years in prison and 31 year old Norma Perez was given five years probation from a ten year sentence.

Punishment hearings for both Champlin and Perez were held last October. A spokeswoman in the district attorney’s office says Champlin was allowed to spend the holidays with his family and not report to jail for transport to prison until this past Monday (January 5).

Prosecutors say the couple were charged with the felony crime after they did not call police or request medical assistance after a person identified only in College Station police arrest reports as I.G. died in October of 2023.

Instead, Champlin and Perez deleted text messages, cleaned the apartment where the death occurred, and hid their history of selling and using drugs.

There have been no arrests associated with the death.
