College Station city staff is not recommending to the city council that electric customers pay the additional $48 million dollars to get electricity during February’s winter storm.

Finance director Mary Ellen Leonard told the council that averages $1,100 per meter throughout College Station Utilities (CSU).

Leonard also said what the state has not determined, is how much CSU and other electric companies will have to pay for other providers that went bankrupt as the result of the winter storm…which is known as an uplift charge.

If the state changes the rules where uplift charges are passed on to the electric companies that did not go bankrupt, the College Station council was told customers will pay those fees. That’s in order to maintain College Station Utilities financial stability.
