Earlier this summer, the College Station city council was asked to consider building parks with wide and long paved paths only for bicycles.
The council decided at its last meeting to put that at the bottom of the priority list due to its cost. But at least two members want to keep the door open.
John Nichols says there’s the possibility of private funding and ranking the project in the city’s next capital improvements plan.
Mayor Karl Mooney thought about building the bike park on the RELLIS campus.
Councilman James Benham estimated the cost of a bicycle only path similar to Austin’s Veloway at $10 million dollars.
The Veloway has a 23 foot wide concrete path…almost the width of a two lane city street…along with restrooms, vehicle parking, and other amenities.
