College Station Council Approves Historic Preservation Committee Recommendations & Discusses Returning Historic Plaques For Razed Buildings

This week’s College Station city council meeting included approving revisions on the process to apply for historical markers.

Before that vote, there was a lengthy discussion about markers being displayed at locations where the original building no longer exists.

Councilman Dennis Maloney offered to pay building owners to return plaques.

Maloney said the idea followed the discovery of the razing of the Luther Jones home, while the historical marker remains on the property.

City attorney Carla Robinson was asked if the policy could be changed to bring more power and integrity to city historical markers.

The only action the council took was approving changes recommended by the city’s historic preservation committee.
