College Station City Council Will Decide Fate of City’s Flock Safety Cameras

A custodian at a local elementary school has been arrested on charges of child pornography. 22-year-old Gerardo Antonio Gonzalez was booked into the Brazos County Jail today and was charged with two counts of Possession With Intent to Promote Child Pornography, and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 2, 1-4 grams). He is being held on $100,000 bond. His mugshot is not available at this time. Gonzalez worked as a night-time janitor at Greens Prairie Elementary. He was hired on with the district in February 2025 and was terminated as soon as the district learned of his arrest. Officials with College Station ISD sent this letter to parents this afternoon: “The safety and well-being of our students are our highest priorities at College Station ISD. We also believe that families and staff deserve clear and timely information about matters that affect our community. With that in mind, we want to make you aware of a situation involving a CSISD employee that occurred today. This afternoon, Brazos County Sheriff’s Office notified College Station ISD administration that Gerardo Gonzalez, an evening custodian at Greens Prairie Elementary, has been arrested on charges related to the promotion and possession of child pornography. He has been employed since February 2025 and is terminated effective immediately. The investigation is ongoing, and the district is fully cooperating with law enforcement. There is no indication that any CSISD students were involved in or connected to the alleged conduct.  We understand that this news is unsettling, and we are committed to transparently addressing this situation. Our highest priority is the safety of our students, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to protect them. If the allegations prove true, we encourage the criminal justice system to take every appropriate action. Out of an abundance of caution, the district has completed an internal review of the employee’s district-issued digital records and will conduct a security sweep of the school. These measures are being taken as an additional precaution to help ensure the safety of our students and staff. One man is dead and another in custody following a fatal shooting in Grimes County Tuesday. The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office received reports a disturbance and possible shooting in the Keith area around 5:00pm Tuesday afternoon. Deputies arrived at the site on CR 173 to find 51-year-old Vicente Yanez, dead from a gunshot wound. An investigation determined that 40-year-old Richard Butterworth, III got into a physical altercation with Yanez. During that altercation, Butterworth fired his weapon, striking and killing the man. Butterworth has been charged with Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is being held in the Grimes County Jail. The investigation was conducted by the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office and Texas Rangers. GCSO would also like to thank the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Navasota Police Department, and Grimes County Constable Precinct 1 for responding to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing as investigators continue to gather and document evidence related to the case. It’s been nearly six years since the disappearance of Texas State University student Jason Landry. The 21-year-old left San Marcos on December 13, 2020 headed towards his home in Missouri City for Christmas break. His car was found in the early morning hours of December 14th, crashed and abandoned off Salt Flat Road in Luling. Exhaustive searches by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Equiisearch, using helicopters with infrared cameras, UAVs (drones), side-scan sonar, scent dogs, as well as searchers on foot, ATVs and horseback. A dog briefly tracked his scent to a nearby cattle guard before losing it. Landry’s clothes were found scattered, leading investigators to believe he was experiencing hypothermia. On September 8, 2026, a Luling resident spotted human remains in a heavily wooded area east of Salt Flat Road, between Soda Springs and Biggs Road. It was roughly 3.5 miles south of the original crash site. The remains were sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (“UNTCHI”) where DNA analysis confirmed that the remains belonged to Landry. Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Cold Case Unit announced the results today. The remains do not provide additional insight into the cause or manner of death. Investigators have found no indication of foul play. “This development marks a critical moment in a case that has weighed heavily on our hearts for nearly six years.
