College Station City Council Will Consider Tree Preservation Ordinance

At the last Bryan ISD school board meeting (March 24), member David Stennis’s report of the last finance committee meeting included looking for the money to replace the Merrill Green Stadium artificial turf and possibly the lights. Click below to hear David Stennis’s comments from the March 24, 2025 Bryan ISD school board meeting.   The agenda for the next BISD board meeting (April 7), the agenda includes awarding a contract to replace the turf. The agenda does not identify the funding source for the $697,664 contract or any details of the contract. A Bryan ISD spokesman tells WTAW News “Pending Board approval, the district will be using remaining 2014 & 2019 bond funds.” Artificial turf was originally installed at the stadium in 2012.

Amazon’s drone deliveries have officially resumed in College Station and in Arizona after a two month break. That’s according to Kim Komando, whose technology program is heard on WTAW Sunday afternoons between noon and three. Kommando’s website says Amazon drones were grounded after dust was messing with their altitude sensors. The drones are flying again after Amazon did a software update.

College Station police spent part of Friday morning (April 4) dealing with a man who was arrested after barricading himself in a woman’s fourplex unit off Southwest Parkway between Anderson and Bee Creek. CSPD officer David Simmons says the man broke into the fourplex and threatened the woman with a knife. The woman was able to escape after the man fell asleep. Simmons says officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls around 6:45 a.m. That included officers who were wrapping up the night shift and those coming on the day shift. The CSPD presence included the department’s SWAT and hostage negotiation teams and the K-9 and drone units. After contact could not be made with the man, officers entered the fourplex unit and found him inside a kitchen sink cabinet. Click below to hear David Simmons visit with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
