The last College Station city council meeting (October 24) had three votes by a four to three margin. The last one, changes how members are selected to the city’s tourism committee.

Linda Harvell, a retired tourism agency executive participating in her last council meeting, received majority support to have members named by the council instead of city staff.

Joining Harvell were Elizabeth Cunha, Mark Smith, and Bob Yancy.

Voting no were councilmen Dennis Maloney and William Wright and mayor John Nichols.

Maloney was among those wanting to wait until after the November 5th election, when three new members joined the council, to consider the idea.

Nichols said members of the current committee may choose to not apply to join the new group.
