A resolution calling on the legislature to allow a local vote whether to raise vehicle registration fees in Brazos County by $10 dollars to fund future highway projects has the support of the College Station city council.

Dennis Maloney, who was part of the unanimous vote at the council’s last meeting, reported that the absence of an interstate kept two companies from locating in the Brazos Valley.

Maloney, who is a College Station representative of the board of the Brazos Valley economic development corporation (BVEDC), said he has not been able to get the board to consider the resolution that would benefit Brazos County’s new regional mobility authority (RMA).

Maloney asked the mayor to make sure the request was placed on the next BVEDC board agenda.

Maloney says the resolution also has the support of Brazos County commissioners and Texas A&M.

As part of a recap of the last BVEDC board meeting, Maloney said A&M is requiring $200,000 of its $350,000 dollar annual contribution to the EDC to go towards two specific programs.
