In September 2024, the College Station city council created a housing action plan.

At the council’s January 9th meeting, members approved creating a committee to carrying out the plan’s mission of building more housing of various types and to produce and preserve affordable housing.

Presenting the staff recommendation, community development analyst David Brower said the housing plan covers the next eight to ten years.

Brower also said that they are working on the application form for potential committee candidates.

The resolution spells out the qualifications of up to seven committee members that includes having “a diversity of backgrounds that may include, developers, real estate professionals, homebuilders, financial experts, or others with knowledge and experience that can contribute to the execution of the Housing Action Plan.”

The committee will meet at least quarterly, members will serve three year terms, and that the committee will be disbanded once the plan is retired.
