College Station City Council Updates Their Economic Development Master Plan

College Station city council members at their last meeting (February 26), spent more than one hour before adopting the first revision to the city’s economic development master plan since 2020. Consultants hired by the council titled their 34 page report “The College Town of Texas”. And the beginning of the consultant’s vision statement says “College Station will be the nation’s most vibrant university community”. The city’s chief development officer, Michael Ostrowski, says the 34 page report “is more strategic, it’s more action focused, and it’s very specific to what we need to do” compared with the prior report that he described as “more general in nature”. The day after the council’s unanimous approval, a ten member steering committee started addressing more than 100 action items. The steering committee, aided by consultants by the council, is composed of three council members, five representatives of the business community, a representative of the Texas A&M president’s office, and the chairman of the planning and zoning commission. While the council unanimously approved changes, at least three members expressed a desire for more time to consider the report’s more than 100 action items. After councilman David White’s motion to delay a vote died for the lack of a second, he joined a unanimous vote. The council’s vote followed the city’s planning and zoning commission recommending approval by a 4-3 margin. P&Z chairman Jason Cornelius said that was in part to some members expressing a desire for more time to study the findings. Brazos County Commissioners Are Told Deferred Maintenance Projects Totals $34 Million Dollars

Brazos County commissioners are told that $34 million dollars need to be spent on deferred maintenance of four county buildings during the next ten years. County documents show deferred maintenance estimates are just over $18 million at the Brazos County jail, more than $9 million at the Brazos Center, $4.7 million at the courthouse, and $1.7 million at the sheriff’s office. The total amount is divided as almost $19 million in the next two years for life safety and code critical reasons, another $13 million in the next two to five years to replace systems such as heating and air conditioning, and almost $2 million in the next five to ten years for what is described as “future considerations”. Bryan Police Arrests For Someone Who Stole Electronics Out Of A Crashed Car And Someone Who Cut Wiring From A Car’s Steering Column

One of the drivers involved in a crash in Bryan at 29th and Briarcrest last Sunday night (March 8) was also the victim of a theft. That driver was able to use a tracking device in his backpack to tell Bryan police officers the location of his stolen backpack containing more than $2,600 dollars of items. That led to a 20 year old Bryan man going to the Brazos County jail for the sixth time in the last three years. Juan Arredondo III is out of jail after posting a $10,000 dollar bond. The property in the backpack that was recovered includes a laptop, an iPad, an iPhone, a pair of Air Jordan shoes, and an inhaler. Arredondo told officers according to the arrest report that he intended to give them to the victim. A Bryan woman tells Bryan police that she cut the wires on the steering column of a car in May 2025 because she was angry and needed to destroy something. That’s according to a BPD arrest report where the 20 year old woman went to jail last Friday (March 6) on a charge of felony criminal mischief. The victim told officers his car was totaled after the cost to replace the wiring harness was $3,500 dollars. Nevaeh Frank is out of jail after posting a $5,000 dollar bond.
