The health district’s Holly Ulbrich says the inspections “aren’t out there to bring the hammer down on people. We’re mainly out there to educate them and get them into compliance.”

The health district’s Kate Jackson says state law requires the city to pass an ordinance giving the health district permission to inspect an estimated 250 pools in College Station.

The College Station council will be given a recommended ordinance after the city attorney’s office meets with health district administrators.

Councilman David Wright, who was part of a unanimous vote, said “I for one am kind of alarmed that our public pools are not being tested.”

The College Station council vote comes the month after four members of the Bryan council chose not to hear the health district proposal.
