Coach Bellard’s services Saturday in Georgetown

A celebration of life for former Texas A&M Football coach Emory Bellard will be Saturday at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church Worship Center in Georgetown, Texas. Bellard, who coached at A&M for seven seasons, died early yesterday morning at the Tiffin House in Georgetown at the age of 83, after a battle with ALS.

On Thursday, Sports Talk’s Chip Howard visited with former coach RC Slocum about his friend and former boss. Following are excerpts:

Coach Bellard was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Kay, two brothers Norman and Pug, a son Emory Jr and a daughter Deborah Lynn. He is survived by his wife of 17 years Susan and his son Bob Bellard, the head coach at Bryan High School and his wife Amy. He had six grandchildren.
