City of College Station Asks For Public Input on Future of Harvey Road District

Here is the latest update from TxDOT regarding closures and detours for the Big 6 Construction project. Monday, September 14 Southbound frontage road at Texas Avenue/Deacon Drive intersection – Turn Lane Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The southbound frontage road left turn lane will be closed at the Texas Avenue/Deacon Drive intersection to install an underground structure. Traffic may continue on the southbound frontage road using the remining left turn lane. Southbound mainlanes between Briarcrest Drive and University Drive – Full Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. All traffic must exit through the southbound University Drive exit ramp and may re-enter the mainlanes just north of University Drive. Additionally, the southbound entrance ramp north of Briarcrest Drive will be closed. Northbound frontage road between Barron Road and Midtown Drive – Single-lane Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The northbound frontage road right lane will be closed to set traffic barrier. Additionally, the northbound Rock Prairie exit ramp will be closed. Northbound traffic may use the Barron Road exit to access Rock Prairie Road. Southbound frontage road between Rock Prairie Road and Barron Road – Single-lane Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The southbound frontage road left lane will be closed. The Barron Road exit ramp and the entrance ramp south of Rock Prairie Road will be closed. Southbound traffic may use the Rock Prairie Road exit ramp to access Barron Road. Southbound frontage road at the Texas Avenue/Deacon Drive intersection – Turn Lane Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The southbound frontage road right turn lane will be closed at the Texas Avenue/Deacon Drive intersection to install a traffic signal drill shaft. Traffic may turn right to northbound Texas Avenue using the through lane. Northbound Texas Avenue ramp – Single-lane Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The northbound Texas Avenue ramp right lane will be closed at the Texas Avenue/Deacon Drive intersection to install a traffic signal drill shaft. Northbound and southbound mainlane between Southwest Parkway and Rock Prairie Road – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The northbound and southbound mainlanes left lane will be closed for work in the center median. Tuesday, September 15 Northbound and southbound mainlane between Southwest Parkway and Rock Prairie Road – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The northbound and southbound mainlanes left lane will be closed for work in the center median. Northbound frontage road south of Harvey Mitchell Parkway – Entrance Ramp Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The northbound frontage road entrance ramp south of Harvey Mitchell Parkway will be closed for traffic barrier work. Southbound frontage road between Briarcrest Drive and University Drive – Single-lane Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The southbound frontage road left lane will be closed to remove barrier. Additionally the entrance ramp south of Briarcrest Drive will be closed. Wednesday, September 16 Northbound and southbound mainlane between Southwest Parkway and Rock Prairie Road – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The northbound and southbound mainlanes left lane will be closed for work in the center median. Thursday, September 17 Northbound and southbound mainlane between Southwest Parkway and Rock Prairie Road – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The northbound and southbound mainlanes left lane will be closed for work in the center median. Southbound mainlane between Barron Road and William D. Fitch Parkway – Single-lane Closure – 7:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. The southbound mainlane right lane will be closed. Additionally, the southbound William D. Fitch Parkway exit ramp will be closed. Southbound traffic may exit at Barron Road to access William D. Fitch Parkway. TxDOT encourages drivers to watch for changing traffic patterns, be sure to follow signs, and to always use caution.

A Bryan woman was arrested after crashing into a utility pole, then walking away from the scene with her 6-month-old daughter. Bryan Police responded to the 700 block of East 23rd Street around 9:30pm Sunday after receiving a report that a vehicle had crashed into a telephone pole. The caller told dispatch that the driver appeared intoxicated and walked away holding a baby. Officers found a Toyota Corolla against the pole with front-end damage. He found 34-year-old Maria Casas, of Brenham, hiding under a tree in a nearby field, holding her daughter. Reports say Casas had difficulty standing on her own and smelled of alcohol. EMS was called to the scene to evaluate mother and daughter and both were cleared. Casas was given a field sobriety test which she failed. She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Under 15 and Endangering a Child. She is being held on $22,000 bond.

A 21-year-old was arrested early Sunday after driving recklessly through the Northgate District at closing time. Police witnessed Hector Pineda, of College Station, on Church Avenue traveling at approximately 50mph in a 25mph zone. Arrest records say the streets were still crowded just after 2:30am when Pineda squealed his tires and sped down the street. Officers say that Pineda was also not wearing a seat belt. He failed a field sobriety test and breathalyzer samples registered 0.111 and 0.105. Pineda was charged with Reckless Driving and Driving While Intoxicated. He was released on $6,000 bond.
