City Of Bryan Project Update Reveals Frontier Communications Surcharge

A WTAW listener who read the fine print on one of their utility bills has let us know they’re helping pay to move overhead lines underground in Bryan.

Thanks to the listener texting us their Frontier Communications bill, which shows a monthly charge of $1.25 for something called a “road work recovery charge”.

A Frontier spokesman didn’t tell WTAW News when the charge started or if it will ever end.

Frontier says they pass on to customers, one-third of the cost of relocations mandated by local and/or state governments.

BTU and Suddenlink, which have also moved utility lines underground in Bryan, do not charge customers according to January statements.

Bryan city manager Kean Register told the city council at this week’s meeting that Frontier and Suddenlink have not completed relocating overhead lines underground along South College.

Register told WTAW News Suddenlink has not started moved their lines. But Suddenlink told the city manager they are in the process of getting a contractor.

The South College Avenue information was part of the manager’s monthly project report to the council.
