The city of Bryan has a new parks and recreation director. The city’s parks and recreation advisory board was told at their November meeting that Mike Riggens will start December 1st, following the retirement of Brad Stafford on September 30th. Riggens moves to Bryan from Conroe, where he held a similar position the last 19 years.
Action at the Bryan city council’s regular meeting on November 11th included replacing playground equipment at two parks. With no discussion, the unanimous vote means replacing 19 year old equipment at Scurry Park and 17 year old equipment at Copperfield Park. New features at Scurry Park includes replacing a pea gravel surface with shredded rubber and adding shaded areas. Copperfield will get what is described as challenging climbing elements and replacing the sand surface with the shredded rubber. The city’s cost of $339,000 dollars includes a $33,000 dollar grant from the manufacturer. The new equipment is scheduled to installed by March of 2026.
