There are new rules for those visiting Texas prisons.

Recommendations presented by the prison system’s general counsel, Stephanie Greger, were approved at the last prison board meeting.

Corrections officers are now allowed to search the vests of service animals that accompanies visitors inside state prisons. That is to check for contraband.

Another change allows visitors to bring inside the prison, one debit or one credit card. According to a WTAW listener, the card can be used by the visitor at prison vending machines for the inmate.

Rules governing visitor behavior were also amended, where visitors will remain seated until they are excused to leave and their identification will be returned prior to leaving.
