Central Texas Girl Hospitalized After She Was Hit By Lightning

WACO, Texas (AP) _ A 10-year-old girl from a small Central Texas town remains hospitalized after being struck by lightning during a storm earlier this week.

Baylor Scott and White Health spokesperson Deke Jones tells The Associated Press that Evelyn Cockerham was in critical condition on Thursday at McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple.

She struck by lightning Sunday while playing with her siblings outside her home in the town of Holland, about 20 miles south of Temple.

Her mother, Dana Cockerham, told KWTX television station in Waco (http://bit.ly/1JR0xHU ) that as a storm moved in, she was about to call for them to come inside when she heard a loud boom.

She and her husband found Evelyn up against the tree, unconscious and not breathing.
