A lit cigarette started a house fire in north College Station last weekend.
Fire Department spokesman Bart Humphreys says investigators were not able to determine if the smoke alarm was working because it had melted by the time crews arrived.
The home on Avenue B, near Tarrow and Lincoln, was destroyed while a neighbor’s home received minor damage.
The occupant, who was asleep, awakened in time to get out of the house but was hospitalized for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Bart Humphreys visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
