The Caldwell police officer who was shot during a struggle with a suspect in multiple vehicle burglaries has been released from the hospital.
Police chief Charles Barnes says the officer, Coleman Decker, is recovering at home.
After Decker was shot by the suspect, the officer returned fire, killing the suspect.
The identity of the suspect has not been released by Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety, who are investigating the early Saturday morning shooting.

A Caldwell police officer is hospitalized following an exchange of gunfire with a vehicle burglary suspect who was killed.
Caldwell police chief Charles Barnes says this took place early Saturday morning.
One of multiple officers who responded to the report of several vehicle burglaries located two suspects.
In a news release, Barnes said the officer who caught one of the suspects became involved in a physical struggle.
After the suspect shot the officer, the officer returned fire, killing the suspect.
The Caldwell chief says the Texas Rangers are investigating, as is standard procedure for an officer involved shooting.

In the early morning hours of 6/17/2023, Officers with the Caldwell Police Department responded to several vehicle burglaries in the City of Caldwell.
An officer was able to locate two suspects, who had fled on foot.
An Officer pursued one suspect on foot and a physical struggle ensued.
The officer was shot by the suspect, at which time the officer returned fire; fatally wounding the suspect.
The officer was transported by Burleson St. Joseph Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital for treatment. The officer is in stable condition at this time.
The identity of the officer and the deceased are not being released at this time, due to an on-going investigation by the Texas Rangers; which is standard procedure for an officer involved shooting.
