Various Texas A&M student services departments began moving out of Cain Hall this week.
That’s as plans progress to demolish and replace the office building as part of a development north of Kyle Field that will also lead to a hotel and parking garage.
The offices of the Dean of Student Life, Disability Services, Residence Life and the school’s Student Counseling Service are moving to temporary locations on Texas A&M’s west campus, across from the new White Creek Apartments on Discovery Drive. They will be in modular buildings for the next three to four years.
Executive Associate Vice President Dr. Dave Parrott said they are listening to student input to make the transition period as comfortable as possible.
“We are listening to ideas about direct shuttles, golf cart transportation, other ideas that students are bringing forth and as always, Aggies are taking care of Aggies, and we are appreciative for their input and we are listening carefully to what they have to say,” said Parrott.
After Cain Hall is demolished, plans include a new facility, hotel, and parking garage.
Parrott said the new facility should better serve students, faculty and staff.
“I think students will benefit from that. I think our staff will be in a space better suited to their needs of serving those students, and while it’s uncomfortable right now to do without the old Cain Hall and we are sad to see it go, replacing Cain Hall is very exciting to all of us,” said Parrott.
