It was no holiday for local law enforcement on Memorial Day.
In College Station, police spent two hours tracking down a local man accused of stealing two wedding rings. The victim told officers he met the suspect at the Central Park Apartments to sell the rings, then he ran off into the woods with the rings. With the help of the Bryan police department’s K-9 unit, 25 year old Jamarious Scott was found at Wolf Pen Creek Park. The rings were not recovered. Jail records indicate it’s Scott’s second arrest in as many months and his 10th arrest since August 2007.
CSPD also responded to 11 burglary calls on Monday, nine involving vehicles and two taking place at homes.
Bryan Police responded to an armed robbery Monday evening at 11 in the area of College Main and Clay Street. The victim says he was approached by two men, who displayed handguns and demanded his money and cell phone. The victim was not hurt. The suspects were described as black men in their mid to late 20’s, 5’7-5’10” tall, muscular build, one wearing t-shirt and shorts and the second wearing a hoodie and shorts. They suspect vehicle is described as a black two door car.
BPD also took information about six thefts on Monday, including the theft of a wedding ring in the parking lot of the Colony Park shopping center.
And a Bryan woman was arrested for making bogus calls to 9-1-1. Officer Kelley McKethan says 39 year old Mornique Wells has been been responsible for 353 emergency calls since February 2011. Wells was arrested after placing her sixth false call to 9-1-1 in as many days. According to the arrest report, Wells reported someone was knocking on her door. Then she called back six minutes later to say she had cut her ankle and needed medics. Wells was taken to the St. Joseph’s emergency room, where staff confirmed there was no injury, then to jail where she remains held. Jail records indicate she spent three days there earlier this month for criminal trespassing.
