The largest employer in the Bryan/College Station biocorridor and one of the largest private employers in Brazos County is going through its first reduction of employees. FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies (FDB), which came to the biocorridor in 2014, currently has 747 employees. A corporate spokeswoman says next week, up to 33 employees will take voluntary buyouts or will be laid off. A corporate news release says the employment reduction also impacts FDB locations in North Carolina, Massachusetts, and England. The loss of up to 240 jobs is the result of FUJI restructuring its small scale business unit. That follows challenges brought about by reduced venture capital investment, mostly in cell and gene therapy products.
An expected starter on last year’s Texas A&M men’s basketball team who was dismissed before the season started has been arrested. 23 year old Julius Marble of Cedar Hill (TX) is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his apartment last October 14th, which was about three weeks before the Aggies first game. The arrest report from College Station police says the victim told Marble “no” to several unwelcomed advances. She also attempted to push Marble away. After the assault, the victim called a friend who took her to a local hospital. The arrest report also says Marble sent a direct message on Instagram the following morning, telling the victim that he did not recall what had happened but he hoped that he did not do anything to upset her. Marble was booked in the Brazos County jail April 18th and was released later in the day after posting a $50,000 dollar bond.
