Kindergarten through fourth graders at Forest Ridge Elementary School in College Station had an additional recess Thursday due to an evacuation.
CSISD spokesman Chuck Glenewinkel says protocol was “executed perfectly” when fire alarms sounded at lunchtime.
Glenewinkel says the alarms were triggered by smoke from burned food in a microwave located near the kindergarten wing of the school.
Glenewinkel says there was no fire damage. The only inconvenience were removing the smoke and a little smell.
Students, teachers, and staff were outside for approximately 35 minutes. Glenewinkel says he saw a couple of classes doing sing-a-longs among other activities during the interruption.
