The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook today (Monday, August 10, 2026) to announce that a burn ban has been enacted for the county. Effective immediately, all outdoor burning will be prohibited.
Robertson County now becomes the second county in the Brazos Valley to institute a burn ban after Madison County announced one last week.
A Brazos County court sentenced a man to 10 years in prison after violating his probation. On Wednesday, Judge John Brick granted the state’s motion to revoke the probation of 51-year-old Ryan Mitchell. In 2021, Mitchell was accused of violating a protective order by repeating calling a College Station woman and leaving threatening messages. After pleading guilty to violating the order, he was placed on probation. In June 2025, Mitchell was trespassing at an Austin-area convenient store. When Austin Police attempted to make contact, Mitchell fled the scene. He later exited his vehicle and approached officers while holding a hammer. Mitchell was then arrested for Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant. After hearing the evidence from Austin PD, College Station PD, and Mitchell’s probation officer, Judge Brick sentenced Mitchell to the maximum punishment of 10 years in prison. Assistant District Attorney Abigail Goodman says, “We are lucky to live in a community where police officers willingly jump into action to protect us. Judge Brick’s sentence sends the message that Brazos County will serve justice when officers are threatened with harm.”
The Texas Lottery Commission says a resident of Bremond recently claimed a jackpot worth $1.825-million. The winning Texas Two Step ticket from the drawing on August 3, 2026 was purchased at CEFCO Food Store #61, located at 101 Mignonette Street in Kosse. The winning Quick Pick ticket matched all four of the white ball numbers drawn (4-15-19-20) and the red Bonus Ball (22). For selling the prize winning ticket, the retailer may be eligible for a $5,000 bonus under the Texas Lottery’s Retailer Bonus Program. According to the Texas Lottery, Texas Two Step jackpots start at $200,000. Jackpots increase for the next drawing until there is a winner. Players can win the jackpot by matching all four of the white ball numbers (1-35) and one red Bonus Ball number (1-35) to the numbers drawn. The game features overall odds of one in 32.4. Texas Two Step drawings are conducted on Mondays and Thursdays.
(AUSTIN, TX) — Governor Greg Abbott announced Friday that under his current term, the crime rate in Texas fell for the third consecutive year, according to new Uniform Crime Reporting data released by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The statewide rate dropped 13% in 2025. “Tough laws and strong law enforcement have reduced crime every year since 2023,” said Governor Abbott. “We passed the toughest bail reform package in state history, backed law enforcement, and targeted violent repeat offenders. Three straight years of lower crime prove those policies work, and Texans are safer because of them.” The statewide crime rate peaked in 2022 at 2,830.14 offenses per 100,000 people before falling for three consecutive years: 3.3% in 2023 8.2% in 2024 13% in 2025 Governor Abbott has made public safety a top priority. He’s signed into law the strongest bail reform package in Texas history, expanded resources for local law enforcement, and directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to target repeat violent offenders. The consistent decline in the crime rate reflects the results of those priorities and build on the Governor’s commitment to protecting law-abiding Texans by ensuring dangerous criminals remain behind bars where they belong.
