Ten days after the death of Burleson County sheriff Gene Hermes, his chief deputy is sworn in to fill that vacancy.
Bill Rios came out of retirement following a 36 year career with the Houston police department to join the sheriff’s office in 2022.
A week after serving as a reserve deputy, Rios accepted a position as a school resource officer.
Rios was completing his second year as chief deputy at the time he was appointed by Burleson County commissioners.
