Bryan Woman Drowns at Matagorda Beach

A Bryan woman is dead after drowning at Matagorda Beach this weekend.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Matagorda County Sheriff Deputies responded to a possible drowning report and on arrival, saw two men pull a woman out of the surf.

The victim was identified as 36 year-old Jennie Jackson. Jackson received C-P-R but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A juvenile, who was also pulled out of the water, was transported to Matagorda Regional Hospital, then life-flighted to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston where he was later released.

On Saturday 05/28/2016 around 7:30pm, Matagorda County Sheriff Deputies, who were working beach patrol on Matagorda Beach, were dispatched to an area ¼ mile east of the jetty’s in reference to two people possibly drowning.

Deputy Jake Roberts responded to the location and observed two men pull a female out of the surf and onto the beach.

The female was identified as Jennie Jackson 36 years old of Bryan, Texas. Several people along with Deputy Barbara Ballejo started CPR on Mrs. Jackson.

Deputy Roberts observed two other men pulling an unconscious male out of the surf and onto the beach. Game Warden Tommy Johnson arrived on scene and he started CPR on the Juvenile male with the help of an unnamed citizen. Sheriff Skipper Osborne, who was on Matagorda Beach at the time assisting with beach patrol, met the Ambulance on beach access road and drove the crew to the site on the beach.

EMS personnel hooked up a monitor and checked Mrs. Jackson for signs of life and none were found.

The juvenile male, 16 years old, was taken to beach access road where he met ambulance personnel and was transported to Matagorda Regional Hospital. The juvenile was later transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston by Life Flight.

Judge Jerry Purvis JP-3 was notified and arrived on scene where Mrs. Jackson was pronounced deceased.

As of this press release, the juvenile male has been released from Memorial Herman Hospital.
