It’s been a year and a half since Bryan Police and the Union Pacific Railroad did an enforcement campaign.
And during a three-hour period Monday afternoon, 56 motorists were ticketed. Most were cited for stopping on the tracks, disregarding crossing arms, or failing to stop while driving a commercial vehicle hauling flammable liquids.
Sgt. Jeff Peters of the Bryan Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit says the next railroad enforcement day could be within the next six months.
Bryan PD has already done one enforcement emphasis on motorists who didn’t stop for school buses and Peters says another will take place soon.
For the 32 caught stopping on the railroad tracks, they get to pay a fine of $300. Sgt. Peters says the fine for not stopping for a school bus is $500.
