With no discussion, the Bryan school board Monday night hired a new transportation director.
Warren Lanphier, who started with Bryan ISD last July as assistant director, has 12 years experience with transportation related positions in the U.S. Army, private industry, and a school district in Lewiston Idaho.
BISD human resources director Leroy Morales says Lanphier was selected following several rounds of interviews with an undisclosed number of finalists.
Before considering the hiring of the new director, superintendent Christie Whitbeck reported progress in the new schedules for buses and campus start and end times.
Additional information from the Bryan school district:
The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted Monday night to approve hiring Warren Lanphier to fill the District’s transportation director position.
Lanphier, who was hired as assistant director of transportation in July 2017, will manage all aspects of school transportation for bus riders among Bryan ISD’s 16,000 students.
Lanphier’s charge includes overseeing roughly 100 bus drivers, a fleet of more than 100 buses, 103 bus routes and the complex routing infrastructure needed to transport up to 8,000 students across the District’s 453 square miles. Lanphier will also supervise the District’s special purpose vehicles and transportation for field trips.
“Warren has led the transportation department through some tough challenges and major changes this school year,” Superintendent Christie Whitbeck said. “Rerouting all bus riders in Bryan ISD and revamping systems has been an enormous task, and as assistant director Warren never flinched from the tall tasks before him and his team. I’m pleased to join the board in rewarding his hard work, and we look forward to his continued success.”
Lanphier’s logistics and transportation track record began in 2006 while serving in the U.S. Army. His Army leadership roles included ensuring heavy equipment was moved safely and on time to and from areas of operation. Years later in private industry, he managed various aspects of an oil field trucking company in Wyoming. He was elevated to transportation supervisor at a school district in Lewiston, Idaho in 2013 and took on responsibilities for hiring bus drivers, training, routing and interacting with the community about the school bus system.
He served as a transportation manager, operations supervisor and transportation supervisor at various companies before accepting role of transportation assistant director for Bryan ISD in 2017.
