The Bryan school board recently gave administrators the green light to establish an at-risk academy for middle school students that is projected to start next fall.
Superintendent Tommy Wallis says two teachers, two instructional aides, a counselor, and an assistant principal will work with around 30 sixth through eighth graders.
It’s based on the success of BISD’s Mary Catherine Harris alternative high school. Board member Trey Moore noted MCH was once what he called “a punishment”, but now it’s “a life saver”.
Enrollment at Mary Catherine Harris started at 20 and has grown to nearly 300.
