Bryan Police Update

Officer Kelley McKethan of the Bryan police department visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver about recent shows of support for the department, a reminder of the upcoming National Night Out block parties, the arrests of three people Tuesday morning on multiple charges of vehicle burglaries, the arrests of six people Monday following a two year investigation on charges of organized criminal activity, and locations of increased traffic enforcement.

News release from Bryan police about the arrests of three men on vehicle burglary charges:

On September 21, 2015 at 2:30am Bryan Police responded to Z Islander Apartments, located at 3803 Wellborn Rd., for a report of suspicious activity. A witness stated they observed the occupants of a Ford 500 looking in the toolbox of a truck. Officers were able to stop the vehicle in question and arrested the following individuals:

Charon Marquis Hightower age 23 of College Station
Autra Lee Wayne Maxey age 21 of College Station
Howard Edward Horn age 22 of College Station

All were charged with Theft of a Firearm (State Jail Felony), Burglary of a Motor Vehicle X 3 (Class A Misdemeanor), Attempted Burglary of Motor Vehicle and Criminal Trespass (both Class B Misdemeanors)

News release from Bryan police about the arrests of six people on charges of organized criminal activity:

On September 21, 2015 the BPD Criminal Intelligence Unit, Drug Enforcement Team and Directed Deployment Team conducted an operation with the assistance of College Station PD, The Department of Public Safety and members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. After a lengthy investigation the District Attorney’s Office indicted multiple subjects last Thursday for Organized Criminal Activity involving narcotics trafficking and criminal prison and street gangs.

The following were arrested in Bryan without incident:

Debby Lynette Bernal, H/F, DOB 05/15/81
Juan Antonio Avila Jr., H/M, DOB 09/10/87
Ben Arevalo III, H/M, DOB 10/02/75
Gavino Gonzales Luna III, H/M, DOB 04/03/92
Jose Luis Espinoza-Escorza, H/M, DOB 12/31/84
Roy Edward Arevalo Sr., H/M, DOB 06/24/73 (already at BCSO on previous charges)

During the arrest of Gavino Luna, he was discovered to have a firearm in his possession and was charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon due to being a member of a criminal street gang. That charge is a state jail felony under the provisions of Texas Gang Laws.
