Bryan police officers were split between the scenes of two violent incidents Thursday night.
Up to two dozen officers were at a north Bryan home on Yellowstone, between Texas and Bonham Park, until after six Friday morning. Officer Kelley McKethan says that was after the resident, who was going to be arrested for aggravated sexual assault with a child, shot and killed himself. Officers were able to make contact with the man through a closed window but he refused to come out. As officers were attempting to persuade him to open the door they heard gunshots inside the home. A perimeter was set up, the department’s tactical response and crisis negotiation teams responded, and a reverse 9-1-1 call was sent to residents in the area to stay in their homes. After several attempts were made to make contact with the man, officers entered the home.
McKethan also invited Brazos County residents with cell phones to register with the emergency management office to receive reverse 9-1-1 calls and other messages. Click HERE for the link to the registration site.
Shortly before the gunfire started on Yellowstone, BPD was sent to an armed robbery outside the Reveille Ranch apartments on Wellborn Road. McKethan says two women told investigators they were held up by one man, who got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is described as a young black male, average height and weight, and wearing dark clothing.
