The former Mayor of the City of Bryan, Lloyd Joyce, passed away On Wednesday. He served the City from 1971 to 1978. He was a member of the Bryan City Council from 1971 to 1975, including Mayor Pro Tem from 1971 to 1974. Joyce was the Mayor of Bryan from 1975 to 1978. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home 3001 S. College Ave, Bryan, TX 77801. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Bryan at located at 3100 Cambridge Drive, Bryan, TX 77802. The following is Mr. Joyce’s obituary courtesy of Callaway-Jones: Edward Lloyd Joyce, known to all as Lloyd Joyce, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at his home in Bryan, Texas, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family until the end. He was 92. Lloyd was born in New Gulf, Texas, to Alton Clarence Joyce and Alma Dulice (Sullivan) Joyce. From humble beginnings, he built a life defined by faith, family, service, and an unwavering commitment to agriculture and his community. When Lloyd was a little boy, his parents moved the family to a farm in the rural community of Iago in Wharton County for the purpose of raising the children with an agricultural lifestyle. When not in school, he and his five siblings spent their time helping out with the family farm and livestock and exploring Caney Creek. Lloyd graduated from Boling High School in 1952 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Texas A&M University in 1956. Following graduation, he entered active military service and was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served as a Quartermaster stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia, before continuing in the Army Reserve until 1963. After returning to Texas, Lloyd devoted his career to serving the agricultural community. He founded Lloyd Joyce Agri Services, a full-service agricultural supply business that became known not only for providing feed, seed, and fertilizer but also for Lloyd’s trusted advice, integrity, and friendship. Earlier in his career, he served as Assistant Manager of Producers Cooperative in Bryan and as Brazos County Assistant Agricultural Agent, where he coached numerous agricultural judging teams and helped shape the next generation of agricultural leaders. Lloyd was also one of Texas’ most respected auctioneers. Beginning in the 1950s, he auctioned thousands of junior livestock projects at county fairs and agricultural shows throughout Brazos County and surrounding communities, as well as at major livestock shows in Houston, San Antonio, and Fort Worth. For fifty years, he served as auctioneer for the Brazos County Youth Livestock Show and always refused payment. He conducted countless other producer livestock sales and generously donated his talents to hundreds of charitable fundraising auction events across Texas. He was also a licensed real estate broker. His commitment to public service led him into civic leadership in Bryan. Lloyd served on the Bryan City Council from 1971 to 1975, as Mayor Pro Tem from 1971 to 1974, and as Mayor of Bryan from 1975 to 1978. During his tenure as mayor, he once traveled to New York City, where he happened to run into New York Mayor Ed Koch on an elevator. The two mayors traded notes on the particulars of the office. Throughout his years in office, Lloyd worked tirelessly to improve the community he loved and helped guide Bryan through a period of meaningful growth. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Lloyd was perhaps best known for his remarkable personality. He never met a stranger and possessed an extraordinary ability to remember names, families, and personal connections. His outings around Bryan were always marked by hellos and conversations with friends in the community. Lloyd’s quick wit, infectious smile, and gift for storytelling made him a favorite in every gathering. Every story carried a lesson, and every conversation left people feeling valued. He especially loved children and delighted in encouraging young people. An avid runner, Lloyd demonstrated extraordinary discipline and determination throughout his life. He competed in hundreds of 5K and 10K races, earning numerous medals and trophies. He logged more than 1,000 running miles each year for decades and continued racing competitively until the age of 88. He proudly represented Texas in Senior Olympic competitions throughout the United States and Canada, earning medals well into his later years. Lloyd also treasured traveling with his beloved wife, Mary, and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Bryan, where he faithfully served for more than 50 years as a Sunday School teacher and was a leader of the Businessmen’s Bible Class. Although Lloyd achieved success in business, agriculture, athletics, and public service, he considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. He took immense pride in raising his sons to become successful men of character and good citizens. Lloyd is survived by his devoted wife, Mary King Joyce; his brother, James “Bub” Joyce and his wife Beverly of Houston; his sons, Jeff Joyce and wife Toy of Belton; Glenn Joyce and wife Angie of Hilltop Lakes; Jim Joyce and wife Erica of Royse City; John David “J.D.” Joyce and wife Robyn of Houston; and Russell Harris and fiancée Jenn Richter of Austin. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Justin Joyce and wife Bethany of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and their children Hadley and Blaine; Krystal Lineberger and husband Chris of Greenville, North Carolina, and their children Jericho, Journey, and Jasher; Christopher Joyce and wife Jessica of Tomball and their children Leighton and Nolan; Jena Krinock and husband John of Galveston and their children Lily and Lucy; Jennifer Broach and husband Jared of Allen and their daughter Savannah; Grayson Joyce of Houston; Allyson Joyce of Houston; Ashley Joyce of Houston; Lindsey Hefner of Houston and her children Aubrey, Parker, and Penelope; Corbet Ratcliff and wife Ashley of Fort Worth and their children Hendrix and Sofia; and Rachel De Lon and husband Taylor of Austin.
